September 2000 Newsletter

First of all - Congratulations to all of the Tae Kwon Do and Hapkido students that tested and passed their promotion exams in August!

September will bring many new events and changes to our school. Please read each item below to see how these events and changes will effect you!!

Self Defense Seminar: On the 16th of this month GMA and the Martinsville Physical Arts Center will host a Women's only Self Defense Seminar. This seminar will introduce participants to rape prevention/awareness strategies as well as stand-up and ground-fighting techniques. Participants will have the opportunity to perform skills learned in class on a fully padded "attacker". Seminar starts at 1:00 and runs till 5:30. The cost for MPAC family members is $35. Non-MPAC participants are charged $50 the day of the seminar and $40 pre-paid.

Master Crecelius: Master Crecelius (Mr. Sieg and Mr. Mundy's Tae Kwon Do instructor) will be visiting our school on the 22nd of this month. The purpose of his visit is to strengthen the ties among the different TTCA schools in the area. Plan on making it to this special Class!

Class Schedule Adjustments: As we start to have more differentiation in the ranks, it is becoming clear that in order to keep our level of instruction high, we will need to split the Tae Kwon Do class into two sections. We feel that splitting the class will help the beginning students learn more quickly and for the more experienced students to get more belt-specific instruction. The split will occur on Monday, September 25th. White belts ONLY for the first class, colored belts for the second class. Class times will be as follows:

5:30 - 6:15 Tae Kwon Do - White Belts
6:15 - 7:00 Tae Kwon Do - Colored Belts
7:00 - 8:00 Hapkido All - Belts

Although class times will be slightly shorter, the students will actually receive more focused belt-specific instruction (i.e. free sparring). Please see an instructor if you have any questions about these changes.

TTCA Tournament: The TTCA will be hosting a tournament on the 30th of this month in Kansas City. Students can participate in traditional sparring and forms competitions. School and Master's demonstrations will be performed that evening. See an instructor for an entry form or more details.
